Local Area Coordination

Who is eligible for support

You may be eligible for support from a LAC if you:

• are aged 18 and over
• live in an area where local area coordination is available
• would like support to make changes in your life or work towards your goals, whatever challenges you may be facing.

What local area coordinators do

Local Area Coordinators:

• help people and communities improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life
• work alongside people to understand what matters most to them
• help people find support early, build on their strengths and connect with opportunities in their local community.
• focus on helping people have more choice and control over their lives
• take time to listen and explore what support feels right for each person, rather than directing people straight to services

• connect you with local groups, activities and opportunities
• help build confidence, skills and independence
• support you to feel more connected to your community
• help communities become more welcoming, inclusive and supportive
• support people to take part in volunteering, training or employment if this is something they would like to do
• help people get the right support early, which may reduce the need for more intensive services later

When to contact a LAC

You can contact a LAC whenever you would like support, guidance or someone to talk through your options with. You do not need to wait until things become difficult. 

What to expect after getting in touch

Once you contact us, we'll get in touch as soon as we can. We'll listen to you and work with you to decide what happens next.

We can meet you in your home or in a community space that you feel comfortable.
